I grew up in a small town in Mississippi thinking I would take over my dad’s electronics business during the ’80s and ’90s. That was the place to be, with new technology coming out daily—records to cassettes to CDs, and the evolution of home theaters! It was an exciting time to be a teenager.
My dad’s employees called me “Questions” because I constantly peppered them with inquiries about how things worked and why they worked the way they did. Over time, I acquired a massive amount of knowledge in many fields. To this day, I am just a smidge under being a professional electrician, welder, plumber, and IT guru. But as much as I loved those industries, I was mostly fascinated with stocks and how money made more money.
Every year, my grandmother gave me a couple of shares of stock. I loved this tradition—receiving the gift, knowing it was worth money at that point, but understanding it would be worth so much more years later. I was hooked. I earned a Finance degree and landed an internship at Morgan Keegan in downtown Memphis, TN. Shortly after one of my first official days on the job, I met my wife, Jeanie. Little did I know how full circle we would come twenty years later, as she is now one of my partners at Allred Harris.
Once I started working closely with clients, I knew the best thing I could do for them was obtain my Certified Financial Planner™ certification. This has allowed me to be deeply involved in all aspects of their financial lives.
In 2012, Morgan Keegan was purchased by Raymond James. Coincidentally, Raymond James had an office one block away from where Jeanie was being transferred for a promotion in downtown Dallas, also her hometown. We made the leap to Dallas, where I worked down the hall from a father-son team, Stan and Jon Allred. We shared a similar work ethic, investment philosophy, and conservative approach to wealth management. In 2018, we took the leap from Raymond James to open our own RIA, now Allred Harris.
I feel incredibly fortunate to be in this business for over 20 years—even in 2008, as that year provided invaluable lessons in risk mitigation. It has been tremendously rewarding to walk through life with my clients, celebrating their joys and successes while also being a voice of reason and a steady hand during life’s more challenging moments. My clients know they can reach out to me anytime, as I am Always Here.
